War on Terror, 2011 – Political and Diplomatic Options and Strategies, Ambassador Edmund Hull and Dr. James Lutz, Saturday, October 22, 9:00am-12:00pm, Plymouth Congregational Church. Ambassador Edmund Hull’s service includes Jerusalem, Egypt, Tunisia, & Yemen. From 1999 to 2001, he served as the State Department’s Acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism. Before that, he was the Director for Near Eastern Affairs on the National Security Council. He earned the CIA’s George H. W. Bush Award for Excellence in Counterterrorism (1999–2001) & Presidential Meritorious Service Award for service in Yemen (2001–4). He has taught at Princeton University & currently consults for the U.S. military. Dr. James Lutz is a recognized authority on Terrorism. He is Professor and Chair of the Department of Political Science at IPFW. Dr. Lutz has made presentations to the Defense Intelligence Agency in Washington DC, the senior class at the Foreign Service Institute in South Africa, the Institute for Security Studies in Pretoria, South Africa, and the South African Defense Intelligence College. In 2007, he was the recipient of the Outstanding Research Award at IPFW, and in 2005, was the Richard Lugar Scholar.

Joint 10am Service

A breakfast (8:15am) and the Annual Meeting of the congregation will be held 8:45-9:45am in McKay Hall, followed by joint ELS/KLS worship with Communion at 10:00.  The service will include Arianne Lehn's candidating sermon, and will be followed by a congregational vote for the position of Associate Pastor.   Infants and toddlers may remain in the Nursery during the Congregational Meeting/vote after the 10:00am service, but parents of Sunday School age children should pick them up and bring them back to the Sanctuary with them so Sunday School teachers can also attend the meeting.

We live in an increasingly diverse society; the divisions of the Reformation are now more historic than meaningful; families are separated by location and children are adopting alternative religious preferences. These are new concerns and require new approaches. This year’s Lenten series is a way for our congregation to discuss contemporary evangelism and brainstorm some new ideas for "spreading the good news".
